Instructions

Instructions

1
Peel the onions and slice them thinly, ideally using a mandoline for even, consistent thickness.
3 whole yellow onions (medium)
2
Melt the butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions along with the salt and sugar. Saute for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring frequently. Gradually add the white wine, letting it sizzle and cook down. Continue cooking for about 30 minutes total until the onions are deeply golden brown and fragrant.
Caramelize onions
2 tbsp salted butter
2 tsp salt
2 tsp granulated sugar
¼ cup dry white wine (or substitute water)
3
Transfer the caramelized onions to a cutting board and coarsely chop them so they distribute evenly through the dip. Alternatively, snip them directly in the pan using kitchen scissors.
4
Combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream in a bowl, mixing with a spoon or hand mixer until smooth. Fold in the chopped caramelized onions and the minced parsley. Season to taste with Worcestershire sauce and grated garlic. Serve warm or chilled with chips, crackers, or pita.
8 oz cream cheese (softened)
12 oz sour cream
1 clove fresh garlic (grated, optional)
2 tbsp fresh flat-leaf parsley (minced)
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (or soy sauce, to taste)
